We are now working on the fourth workpackage; to develop the certification for the Educational Institutions and we reflect back on the workshop in Larissa in November and our discussions, that have set the framework for the certification.

Here are some important issues to note

There are many options for certification methodologies including certification of activities, indicators and rates of change.

In case of activities performed by Education Institutions, these can be classified in 3 levels :

  • Level 1: Creating awareness – Stakeholder engagement.
  • Level 2: In action – Implementing measurable changes.
  • Level 3: WIA towards sustainability – Systemic activities that demonstrate the impact of sustainability.

Measurement indicators may include

  • Quantitative: Number of activities, participants and discussions.
  • Qualitative: types of participants, feedback and evaluation reports.

The certification system should integrate a means of verification that could include photos, videos and and documentation to ensure transparency and accountability.

Partners went through an exercise of development of sample activities aligned with the systemic framework. The activities spanned organizational, social and pedagogical areas, targeting various sustainability goals (e.g. policy formulation, curriculum integration, sustainability workshops and systemic SDG adoption). The experience and the results, shed light to the issue of certification.

Final decisions are still to be taken. SUSEDI will come back with more input.
