VIRDUAL: Advancing Digital Innovation in Vocational Education
The VIRDUAL project, an Erasmus+ KA2 initiative, is transforming Vocational Education and Training (VET) by integrating Extended Reality (XR) into work-based learning. With a consortium of seven partners from six European countries, VIRDUAL aims to enhance digital learning experiences and equip VET trainers and apprentices with the skills needed for a rapidly evolving job market.
Key Activities and Deliverables
The project is structured around five work packages, each contributing to the development and implementation of innovative digital training solutions:
- Development of a Training Curriculum and Learning Units Plan: VIRDUAL is designing a structured framework to help VET trainers and in-company educators integrate XR-based learning into their teaching.
- Creation of the VIRDUAL e-Learning Campus: A digital platform will host interactive training content, enabling trainers and learners to access XR-powered lessons.
- Implementation of an Instructional Web App: This tool will allow trainers to develop customized learning activities using immersive technologies.
- Pilot Testing and Evaluation: Two pilot phases will be conducted across the partner countries to test and refine the training methodologies, ensuring effectiveness and engagement.
- Certification and Accreditation Recommendations: Guidelines for the validation and recognition of work-readiness skills trained through XR will be developed to support future adoption in VET programs.
Project Milestones and Next Steps
The project is currently progressing through key milestones, including:
- Finalizing the training curriculum and learning units, ensuring alignment with European competency frameworks.
- Developing and launching the VIRDUAL e-Learning Campus, providing an interactive space for digital learning.
- Testing XR-based learning experiences with over 150 participants in upcoming pilot programs.
- Assessing pilot results to refine and improve the training approach before scaling its implementation.
The Future of VIRDUAL
As the project advances, the impact of XR technology on vocational training will become more evident, helping bridge the gap between traditional education and industry needs. By the end of the project, VIRDUAL will have established a sustainable digital learning model that can be adopted by VET institutions across Europe.
